About Dressage

Dressage as quoted by the FEI “Dressage, the highest expression of horse training, is considered the art of equestrian sport and is used as the groundwork for all the other disciplines. Horse and rider are required to perform a series of compulsory movements executed within a rectangular arena”. Simply put, dressage is training in its truest form.

All disciplines from polo to endurance require horse and rider to communicate and can benefit from what dressage has to offer. The ability to effectively communicate with the horse, whether it is a flying lead change down the pitch to head off a rider or quick half-halt or side pass to avoid a trail hazard dressage even at lower levels teaches horse and rider how to effectively work together to produce the most accurate and effective movement. World class dressage events such as the World Equestrian Games or Olympics give spectators the opportunity to see the magic between horse and rider, one example which has brought a tear to many equestrians eye is the Grand Prix freestyle performance by Andreas Helgstrand of Denmark riding Matine.
